About
Intercultural competence is a set of different skills that a person can develop over time. It is a lifelong learning process since it cannot be fully achieved. Intercultural competence is related to, among other things, empathy, the ability to solve problems, the acceptance of contradictions and ambiguities. Intercultural communication skills are essential for building relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds. It is not only about having language skills, but also interpersonal skills that allow for building relationships and maintaining healthy intercultural interactions. Intercultural situations arise when someone perceives a case, or someone else (or a group of people) as being culturally different from themselves. Some intercultural situations arise daily at work, at school, at any time when we interact with others and often cause misunderstandings. Everyone, at some point in their life, faces intercultural situations. Today, workplaces are increasingly diverse and it is therefore important that employees are able to work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
